Short Film Commission 2025 Now Open

Applications are invited for original script ideas from filmmakers at all stages of their development.

Clones Film Festival, in association with Clones Credit Union, wishes to further develop its support for film production in or around the town and County Monaghan by commissioning an original short film, shot in Clones and the surrounding areas in 2025.

Under this commission by Clones Film Festival, an award of €5,000 will be made towards the cost of the film production; scripting, shooting, editing, and screening.

The short film will then be one of the highlights of this year’s festival, taking centre stage on the closing night of Clones Film Festival on Sunday 26th October 2025.

Live-action short, short documentary, and short animation will all be considered.

Deadline for Application submission is May 11th, 2025

All entrants will be updated as decisions are made.

Requirements:

The selected filmmaker & team will be required to:

• Produce a locally shot short film, documentary, or animation, with a minimum run time of 5 minutes, and no longer than 20 minutes.
• Include Any of the following local street scenes or iconic historic location shots within Clones Town, or the locality and surrounding area.
• Examples include:
o Round Tower,
o Celtic Cross,
o Old Abbey,
o The Diamond,
o Fermanagh Street,
o St Tiernach's Park,
o The Peace Link
o The Canal Stores,
o The Butteryard,
o Any of the churches,
o Any bar,
o Any house or apartment that has a view of any of the above.
o We are open to all suggestions that INCLUDE our town, Clones.
• Interior shots may be shot in other locations but the short film MUST establish a visual Clones area connection.
• Use local extras where required.
• Meet the deadline date set by the committee.
• Attend and screen the short PREMIERE on closing night of Clones Film Festival, Sunday 26th October 2025.

Timeframe:
Application Open: 10th March 2025.
Applications Close: 11th May 2025
Decision from Committee: June 3rd 2025
Deadline for Submission of finished short to Committee: 3rd October 2025
Premiere screening must be held Sunday 26th October 2025, in Clones Courthouse
