The Wilde Sisters, Vardø films, and Three Hares

The Courthouse | Saturday 26th | 5.30  pm | Sponsor: Avenue Pharmacy Clones

A programme of short films celebrating this enduring art form and CFF’s partnership with the CROSSINGS film festival ...

... part of the local Komafest project. on the Norwegian Arctic island of Vardø. https://www.komafest.com

Brought to us by our partner festival, we are showing Finnish production ‘Le Saboteur’ by director Anssi Kasitonni, not just an old-fashioned spy yarn, but also an enlightening behind-the-scenes insight into indie short-film making. Also from Vardø is the short animation ‘Good Luck Mr. Gorsky’ by Astrid Alma Aakra, investigating the reasons behind an alleged comment made by Neil Armstrong during the first moon landing. If you have brought small children to the screening, you may need to cover their eyes (and, if they understand Norwegian, their ears) for a minute or two due to the sexual nature of this particular brand of Nordic humour.

Directed by Paloma Baeza and narrated by Jessie Buckley, ‘Three Hares’ is a beautifully crafted, traditionally drawn short animation film looking at an ancient symbol and the myths behind it. The ecological themed film features an original score by two-time Oscar-winning composer Gustavo Santaolalla. Adam Jackson-Nocher from award-winning animation studio Lupus Films will be available to tell us more.

The star of the show this evening is ‘The Wilde Sisters’. Shot on location in Co. Monaghan and starring a host of local acting talent, 'The Wilde Sisters', co-written and directed by Táine King and beautifully framed and lit by DOP Carol Tormey, is a short film engaging creatives and the wider community in County Monaghan.

Featuring lovingly crafted costumes designed by Jacinta Caraher, the film tells the story of Oscar Wilde’s half-sisters Emily and Mary (Joanne Brennan and Tessa Fleming), who, after dying in a tragic party fire in 1871, are trapped in purgatory, struggling with denial and painful truths about their lives as they seek a way to finally move on.

A compelling journey of forgiveness and self-discovery, the film reminds us that sometimes the greatest barriers to moving forward are the ones we build within ourselves.

Táine King and many members of the cast and crew will be in attendance and introduce 'The Wilde Sisters.'

A Q&A session will follow the screening and we will learn more about this exciting production from some exclusive behind-the-scenes footage.
