The Courthouse | Sunday 27th | 8:30 pm | Sponsor: Clones Credit Union
Closing night at CFF has come to mean only one thing – ‘The Francies’. Named in honour of Francie Brady in Pat McCabe’s ‘The Butcher Boy’,
The awards have been designed by Clones native Jason Crowley.
Jason responded to the motif of the pig, which is central to ‘The Butcher Boy’, and fashioned these memorable awards in solid bronze.
So, who is going to win one of these gems this year...?
Awards are presented to the winners in the three categories of Best Fiction / Experimental, Best Documentary, and Best Animation from our short film programmes.
We will also present an audience award to the most popular film on the night, chosen by the viewers from the three aforementioned winners and our commissioned film. It is a gala night not to be missed and since its inception has been a booked-out affair. The awards ceremony will once again take place in the historic surroundings of Clones Courthouse.
This year will see the eighth (!) world premiere of a CFF-commissioned short film. Shot by writer/director Colin Peppard, producer Kate Gurren, and their team at the new marina, the Peace Link and various other locations around Clones and Monaghan, ‘Mile 24’ tells the story of Niall (Daniel Fee), a 16-year-old aspiring actor, who finds his passion at odds with his father Declan's (Tristan Heanue) obsession with running.
As Niall lands a role in a play, his commitment to acting disrupts their training routine. Declan's disappointment intensifies after a race mishap, driving a wedge between them. Their relationship teeters on the edge as both struggle to reconcile their conflicting dreams. Ultimately, a marathon and a play become the stage for a poignant reconciliation, where Niall and Declan realise that supporting each other is the most important race they’ll ever run.
